Cap piercing automated hematology system

Features Performance Screens Reports Brochure

Background :

Drew Scientific has been making leading edge, top quality CBC systems for over 15 years.
The Evolution offers all the features of the Excell 16 with the new addition of primary sample tube cap piercing.

Features :

  • Accepts most commonly used closed collection tubes
  • 16 parameters with 3 histograms
  • Innovative capillary mode, no need for external pre-dilution
  • 60 samples per hour in closed tube mode
  • Sample size flexibility satisfies a wide range of end user requirements
  • Large LCD with histograms on screen
  • User friendly operator interface
  • Data management stores up to 200 sample records with histograms

Parameters :

WBC,  Lymp#,  Gran#,  Mids#
Lymp%,  Gran%,  Mids%
RBC, Hgb, Hct, MCV, MCH, MCHC, RDW, Plt, MPV

The system also displays :
WBC histogram
Plt histogram
RBC histogram

Operation :

Scientific Principle :
Electrical resistance for cell counting and sizing (WBC, RBC, Plt).
This is combined with optical absorbance of cyanmethemoglobin for hemoglobin.
The technology combines to give a full CBC with 3 part differential in just under one minute.

Sample Handling :
Blood samples must be collected in EDTA tubes. The following sample sizes are required:
Direct mode: 70µL whole blood using closed or open tube mode.
Capillary Blood : 25µL whole blood.

Dilution system :
In order to maximise performance and reduce instrument down-time a high precision ceramic shear valve and computer controlled reagent dispenser are used. Automatic rinse inside and outside of the sample probe prevents carryover and reduces risk of transmission of blood borne pathogen to operators.

Throughput :
60 samples per hour in direct sampling mode

Reagent Packs:
EVO-PAC 200 : approximately 200 tests per pack at 10 samples per day, depending on lab operating procedures.
EVO-PAC LV (for low volume laboratories) : approximately 100 tests per pack at 5 samples per day, depending on lab operating procedures.

System Software :

The Evolution uses powerful but user friendly software. Every operator request such as counting, retrieveing results from the memory, QC calibration or printing is only a few key strokes away.

Patient identification : 9 digit keypad entry
Patient data storage : 200 results with histograms
Report format : User selectable
Calibration : Automatic or manual
Units : The user can select MKS, SI, SI modified, or Chinese
Patient normal range : User defined
Patient action limits : User defined
Quality Control :
A comprehensive onboard QC package allows optimal monitoring of system performance. The Evolution allows two lots with three levels each. Up to one result for each level per day for 100 days or a maximum of 300 results for each lot can be stored onboard. QC data can also be viewed in a monthly Levy-Jennings plot. A log of QC data with automatic calculation of mean, SD and CV can be printed.
Operation alerts : Evolution users get full feedback on operation of the system and sample being analyzed with a range of diagnostic alerts.
Maintenance : To monitor maintenance of the system a maintenance log is available.

Specifications :

Precision :
  Level Units CV
WBC 8.0 x 10³ cells/µL < 1.5 %
RBC 5.0 x 106 cells/µL < 1.0 %
Hgb 16 g/dL < 1.0 %
MCV 90 fL < 1.0 %
Plt 250 x 10³ cells/µL < 3.0 %
Linearity :
  Range Units Linearity
(whichever greater)
WBC 0.1 to 99.9 x 10³ cells/µL ± 0.2 or ± 2%
RBC 0.02 to 9.99 x 106 cells/µL ± 0.05 or ± 2%
Hgb 0.0 to 30 g/dL ± 0.1 or ± 2%
MCV 40 to 150 fL ± 1.5 or ± 2%
Plt 10 to 1000 x 10³ cells/µL ± 10 or ± 5.0%
Plt 10 to 2500 x 10³ cells/µL ± 15 or ± 7%

To optimize performance the Evolution automatically corrects the Plt result when an interference between the Plt and RBC population is detected.

Sensors :
WBC aperture :  100 µm dia x 75 µm length
  RBC/Plt aperture : 78 µm dia x 55 µm length
The RBC/Plt channel features the patented "von Behrens" silencer that eliminates RBC recirculation which interferes with low Plt counts in conventional aperture designs.
Display : Large (122mm x 92mm) liquid crystal display with backlight.
Printer : External inkjet or impact. Several selectable emulations.

Dimensions :

Dimensions (analyzer) 34cm(14in) (h) x 45cm(18in) (w) x 42cm(17in) (d)
Weight 19 Kg (42 lbs)
Operating conditions : Temperature : 15C to 32C (60F to 90F)
Humidity : 10% - 90% non-condensing
